Field campaign

A field campaign will take place at Bambidie in July 2022 to monitor the low cloud cover evolution during the diurnal scale and the associated atmospheric dynamics.

The measurement material to be used is :

  • An energy balance station will be used in Gabon (figures show a test setup of such a station in Karlsruhe). The energy balance station measures the following relevant parameters: longwave and shortwave radiation - latent, sensible and soil heat fluxes - soil moisture - standard meteorological parameters (temperature, dewpoint temperature etc.)
  • A ceilometer will be used to measure the cloud base.
  • To analyse the size distribution of droplets we will use a disdrometer.
  • To analyse the horizontal wind up to 600 m above ground, we will use a sodar.
  • The HATPRO microwave sounder will enable analysing the vertical profile of temperature and humidity.
  • With thethered sondes we will measure the vertical structure of the boundary layer with respect to temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind.
  • For higher profiles of temperature, humidity and wind, we will launch radiosondes.
  • Lastly a cloud detection camera system will be used to analyse the evolution of cloud cover during night and day.
